THE Deputy Minister of Defence, First Admiral (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit, received a courtesy call at the Ministry of Defence (MinDef) yesterday from Brigadier General Melvyn Ong, Chief of Army, Singapore Armed Forces, according to a press release.
During the courtesy call, both sides expressed satisfaction on the cordial and active bilateral defence relations shared by Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore, which are enhanced by regular exchange of visits, trainings and courses, joint military exercises, as well as interaction programmes.
Brigadier General Melvyn Ong, who took command as Singapore’s Chief of Army on August 14 last year, began his three-day introductory visit to Brunei Darussalam from January 12, 2016.
Meanwhile, Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) also received an introductory call from Brigadier General Melvyn Ong Su Kiat. Also present during the call was Brigadier General Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Force.
The introductory call was a personal introduction to the Commander of the RBAF. They discussed ways to further enhance the bilateral defence relationship and professional cooperation between both armed forces, particularly in training and exercises.
