MEMBERS of the public can contribute to Brunei Darussalam National Association of the Blind (BDNAB) by participating in the upcoming 3rd White Cane Charity Run on March 20 at the indoor stadium.
For the first time, international runners are not allowed to participate.
The event is to commemorate the World White Cane day that is celebrated on October 15 since 1964 to educate the public on obstacles faced by the blind.
Pengiran Jusri bin Pengiran Haji Hashim, co-chair of the organising committee, said the event would be opened to members of the public who are residing in Brunei Darussalam.
There are six categories – 3km Special Needs (free), 3km Fun Run ($25), 5km Male aged 12 and above ($30), 5km Female aged 12 and above ($30), 10km Male aged 16 years old and above ($35) and 10km Female 16 years old and above ($35).
With the aim to raise funds for charity, top winners of each categories will only receive medals and trophies.

There will also be finisher’s medals, T-shirts and a lucky draw.
According to Ani Adriana binti Adanan, the co-secretariat of the event, “Last year, we received overwhelming response from the public. A total of 2,700 people took part in the charity run.
“We hope for a similar turnout this year.”
Also present were Jamary bin Danggat, President of BDNAB, Muhammad Hamzi bin Omar, deputy co-chair, and Hajah Hajidah binti Haji Abdul Wahab, co-secretariat of the event.
