MoE awards top primary schools

THE Ministry of Education (MoE) yesterday awarded the country’s top performing primary schools in recognition of their efforts in showing significant improvements in the last Primary School Assessment (PSR 2015) Examination 2015.

Presenting the awards that came in the form of monetary grants to deserving primary schools nationwide was Minister of Education Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman who was the guest of honour in the ceremony held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.

Awarded schools were divided into groups based on the number of candidates and a further two categories – schools that have achieved or surpassed the 74 per cent target of Grades A-C and the second category – the most improved primary schools in the PSR 2015 compared to the previous year.

A total of 28 schools that have achieved or surpassed the 74 per cent target of Grades A-C received cash incentives or grants for the purchase of teaching and learning instruments in their respective schools.

In group one (primary schools with 50 candidates and above), Haji Mohd Salleh Primary School, Sungai Hanching, received a cash incentive of $5,000.

In group two for primary schools with 25-49 candidates, Mabohai Primary School, Primary School Muda Hashim, Raja Isteri Fatimah Primary School, Kuala Belait Primary School, PDN PJ Primary School Sengkarai Primary School and Keriam Primary School each received cash incentives of $3,000.

For primary schools with 11-24 candidates in group three, Bendahara Lama Primary School, Bukit Udal Primary School, Rambai Primary School, Pengiran Muda Mahkota Primary School, Penapar Primary School, HMJM Kiulap Primary School, Birau Primary School, Panchor Murai Primary School, Bukit Panggal Primary School and Puni Primary School received $2,000 cash incentives each.

For group four (10 or below candidates), Piasau-Piasau Primary School, Benutan Primary School, Lubok Pulau Primary School, Labu Estate Primary School, Merangking Primary School, Abdul Rashid Tanjong Maya Primary School, Batang Mitus Primary School, Sungai Teraban Primary School, Bakiau Primary School and Kasat Primary School each received cash incentives of $1,000.

Meanwhile, four top schools were also awarded with further incentive of $3,000 for their improved results in the PSR 2015. The awards were also divided into four groups, based on the number of candidates.

In group one, Panaga Primary School was awarded for an improved percentage of 25.52 from the previous year.

In group two, PDN PJ Sengkarai Primary School recorded an improved percentage of 32.92 per cent from the previous year.

In group three, HMJM Kiulap Primary School recorded an improved percentage of 45.23 per cent from the previous year.

Sungai Teraban Primary School recorded an improved percentage of 60 per cent from the previous year.

Deputy Minister of Education, Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, was also present to hand out the awards.
