JAPANESE representatives from the Miyazaki Prefecture have sought strategic partnerships with Bruneian counterparts in many areas, ranging from agriculture to tourism.
As part of a three-day visit to the Sultanate, a delegation from the Miyazaki Prefectural Assembly visited the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MIPR) yesterday. Their main objective was to promote the prefecture as a holiday destination for Bruneians, while also showcasing its strengths in primary industries, agriculture, fisheries and forestry.
Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, hosted the eight-member delegation, which was accompanied by Noriko Iki, the Japanese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam.
Earlier, the delegates visited the Department of Energy and Industry under the Prime Minister’s Office, where it was said that a high-level visit to the prefecture in February could be a possibility.
“Since Japan and Brunei are partners in the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, we would like to exchange industry information,” said one of the delegates.

The prefecture has a population of 1.1 million people, and also has abundant water resources with high purity, that enables the prefecture to host cutting-edge technology industries, allowing the prefecture to hold the largest world market share in some of its products.
With a concentration of manufacturing industries, from copper indium fallium selenide (CIS) thin-film solar cells, the prefecture is among the world’s largest producer of the technology alongside semi-conductors, medical equipment and bio-medical products, which is a potential area for mutual cooperation.
As part of the Brunei-Japan initiative, the Government of Japan is set to invite a group of students from the Institute of Brunei Technical Education to experience Japan’s fisheries industries. At the same time, officials from the Department of Fisheries are scheduled to visit Japan this year, through the JENESYS youth exchange scheme, to aid in the facilitation of Brunei’s economic diversification, in line with Vision 2035.
