A HEIGHTENED level of patriotism filled the auditorium of Politeknik Brunei’s School of Science and Engineering in Lumut recently.
An event was organised by the Belait District branch of the Information Department which aimed to increase the understanding and patriotic spirit among students regarding the national anthem and flag of Brunei Darussalam. Some 155 students participated in the event.
Mohammad Hisyam bin Idris, an officer from the Information Department, reminded the students that a national flag is a symbol of identity of a country, where it is also an icon of amity and unity possessing dignity, greatness and prestige, which needs to be acknowledged by every race and country in the world.
In relation to that, the officer also discussed the technical details of the national flag along with the appropriate ways of handling it, which include the correct method of hoisting the flag during national holidays.
The talk also covered Brunei’s national anthem, Allah Peliharakan Sultan, which was patriotically sung by the students.

Dr Tang Shi Siong, Acting Head of the School of Science and Engineering, said such talks are important to the curriculum especially in instilling patriotism among students through fun activities.
“I’m happy to see that the students were having fun and at the same I am impressed that they showed enthusiasm,” said Dr Tang.
Dr Tang mentioned that the school is also planning to conduct activities to increase awareness about Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) to reduce risks in work places, public places and at home.
