THE struggle for success was real as top athletes from around the region competed in the second day of the GETFIT CrossFit Battle Royale 2016, enduring scorching hot weather for the elite RX Division yesterday.
Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bolkiah repre-senting GETFIT CrossFit was among the athletes competing in the female RX Division for the first time in the competition. Her Royal Highness was previously a judge during the last Battle Royale.
Three out of six RX Division events were held yesterday while the remaining events, including the Teams Division, will continue today at the International School Brunei (ISB), Jalan Utama Salambigar.
The RX Division consists of repetitive workout regime whereby each athlete has to complete each workout within a limited time frame before moving on to the next one.
A total of 123 elite athletes from six countries; Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, China, Malaysia and Philippines representing over 20 CrossFit affiliates – or ‘boxes’ – participated in the biggest Battle Royale competition since its inception in 2012.

Year on year, the demand for the competition grows, and so does the number of CrossFit boxes in Brunei. Local CrossFit boxes competing this year are GETFIT CrossFit, GETFIT CrossFit Oil Town, Hybrid Movement, CrossFit Extremis, Reebok Crossfit 673 and CrossFit 673 Jerudong.
Coach Gavin Sekhon of GETFIT CrossFit told the Sunday Bulletin that the main objective of the competition is to attract all elite athletes from the region, especially local athletes, to showcase their abilities in a fitness event.
“We have seen participants train harder and learn new skills to make the sport more competitive. As a result, the level of fitness from the athletes has increased,” he said.
Top winners in the male and female RX Division will receive cash prize of $1,000 while top winners in the Team Division will be awarded $1,500.
Coach Gavin Sekhon also welcomes the public to witness and support the top male and female athletes competing in the final RX Division events and Team Division today. The event starts from 2pm until late afternoon.
