THE Beach Bunch’s 21 and 42 kilometre trail challenge, set to take place this Sunday at Tungku Beach, has put Brunei on the map of trail running events.
The Sultanate will be part of the Asia Trail Master series as the second points scoring race following the recent Ultra Trail Hong Kong event. The second edition of the Beach Bunch trail challenge has attracted 330 runners of different nationalities.
High profile ultra-trail runners including Razif Yahya from Malaysia, who participated and finished numerous 100 kilometre ultra-marathon of around the world, will take part in the event.
Details of the challenge were presented in a press conference yesterday at The Empire Hotel & Country Club’s Indera Samudra Grand Hall chaired by Rizan Latif, the President of Beach Bunch.

Brunei Four Wheel Drive Association (PKTLB) and Hajah Fatillah Amalina binti Dr Haji Abdullah, Assistant Tourism Officer.
“We are currently discussing with Asia Trail Master for the first ultra marathon event next year to be hosted in Brunei,” said Rizan Latif.
The race in Tungku Beach will take runners through the jungle, sandy beaches and hills.
Full marathon runners will have to traverse 14 hills in the Bukit Shahbandar Forest Recreation Park, the McFarm trail and entire stretch of Berakas Beach from Tungku Beach.
The event aims to create awareness for the protection of Brunei’s beaches from waste pollution and to promote a healthy lifestyle.
The trail challenge is supported by the Tourism Development Department under the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. The main sponsors also include DST, Takaful Brunei Darussalam, JS photography as well as 2ndskin.
The event is also part of Brunei’s 32nd National Day celebration.
