PRIVATE security companies are being deployed at selected government schools and colleges which are regarded as high-risk and vulnerable to computer threats, said Pengiran Nazrul Arif bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Zain, the Acting Assistant Director of Administration and Services at the Ministry of Education.
“Outsourcing is also conducted, especially at schools with hostel accommodation. If there is a possibility to expand, we will do it. Equally important are schools in the rural areas, where in-house security personnel are put on guard.”
Pengiran Nazrul Arif was speaking in an interview with media personnel yesterday, shortly after a contract-signing ceremony between the Ministry of Education and three private security service companies: Setia Protective Security Services Sdn Bhd (SPSS), Koperasi Rimbun Berhad (KOPRI) and AHO Global Trust Security Agency.
Pengiran Nazrul Arif, who is also the Head of Health, Security, Safety and the Environment (HSSE) Section of the Ministry, said that nine schools and one office have already been contracted by three security companies, with three schools for every security service company.

“These services have been carried out for the past five years. However for this particular contract, the ministry is engaging other companies apart from SPSS, for the first time, as an opportunity to look at other companies with different experiences.
“Our expectation is for these companies to deliver better efficiency, in terms of enhancing the security at the schools. All schools are governmental assets, and it is crucial that we need to secure them. Schools are very vulnerable in terms of security risks, with valuable assets such as computers. The Ministry of Education, through the HSSE Section, is seeking to enhance the security at our schools, by engaging these companies.”
Present as the chief guest was Pengiran Haji Rosli bin Pengiran Haji Halus, Acting Director of Administration and Services at the Ministry of Education.
