AROUND 700 goats and 160 Aberdeen Angus cattle were air-flown to Brunei Darussalam from Australia yesterday.
It was the first transport of livestock to Brunei Darussalam by air, and the shipment will enable Muslims to perform their Korban and Aqiqah rituals for Aidiladha this September.
The company handling the air shipment, Pelorus Harris Luqman Group Sdn Bhd (PHLG), has worked hard to make the inaugural flight to Brunei a success.
The Malaysian-based company told the Bulletin that the shipment will help to accommodate the demand for top cattle breeds during this year’s celebrations for Aidiladha.
PHLG acknowledged that the cost of transporting livestock by air is more costly than by sea, but added that air shipping is much faster and saves a lot of time.
The company also believes that Brunei has a potential to be a platform for shipping livestock to other countries, particularly the Middle East, by capitalising on its premium Brunei Halal branding and tax-free status, which should give it a strong competitive advantage.
