BRUNEIANS planning on travelling to France need not have to worry. However, they should avoid crowded places.

“Life must continue and Bruneians can still enjoy life in France,” Loan Forgeron, Ambassador of France to Brunei Darussalam said during an interview with the Bulletin on the sidelines of the signing of a condolence book yesterday at the French Embassy at the Yayasan Complex in the capital in wake of the Bastille Day massacre in Nice.

“We don’t want racism and hatred against Muslims to occur in France as there are about 10 million Muslims who come from our former colonies in North Africa like Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia and other French speaking African countries,” he said.

“It is very important to preserve the community of Muslims living together with Christians, Jews, Armenians and we need to live together in peace. France is a country that respects human rights and liberty. We are a tolerant country and need to deepen such understanding,” he added.

Among those present to sign the condolence book yesterday were foreign ambassadors and high commissioners residing in Brunei Darussalam.

The Bastille Day massacre in Nice, France on July 14 resulted in the death of 84 people and 70 people remain hospitalised while 19 are in critical condition.

Using a 19-tonne truck, 31-year-old Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, mowed his victims down in Nice. He was radicalised recently, investigations have revealed.
