MATTERS pertinent to the scope of commercial laws and trademark applications among the local business community were among the topics discussed in a dialogue and briefing session hosted by DARE (Darussalam Enterprise) and the Malay Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DPPMB) yesterday.
The ‘Briefing on Trademarks and Commercial Law’ was held to deepen the understanding on the extent of support and protection of existing commercial laws and how it can influence the business community.
The briefing also touched on the different categories and process of trademark applications in the country.
Two prominent counsellors who are also members of the DPPMB, Haji Mohd Rozaiman bin Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Abdul Rahman, President of the Law Society of Brunei Darussalam and Ahmad Basuni bin Haji Abbas gave presentations on commercial laws and trademark applications respectively.
The session, held at the Design and Technology Building in Anggerek Desa Technology Park, was attended by over 90 business leaders from the DPPMB and other invited small and medium enterprises.

Attendees had the opportunity to raise some of the issues they are facing, such as the scope of investor protection in various aspects of the commercial law during the sluggish economic climate.
DARE is planning to conduct more of such dialogues to enable better engagement with the business community, especially on the two topics discussed yesterday.
It also hopes that suggestions and ideas can be brought forward for the sake of the improvement of regulations, ensuring a more pro-business community.
