A MASS Khatam Al-Quran was held at the Civic Centre Complex in the Tutong District yesterday for 266 religious school students who completed the ‘One Week, One Juzuk’ programme.

The programme was initiated last February, in response to a call by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, for schoolchildren to learn the Al-Quran at an early age.

The guest of honour was Roslan bin Haji Taja’ah, the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administrative and Financial Affairs) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

The ceremony began with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah by the guest of honour. It was then followed with recitations of Surah Adh-Dhuha to Surah Al-Masad by the Khatam participants.

The event concluded with a presentation of certificates to the students by the guest of honour, and a recitation of Doa Selamat.
