KEMAS goes on cross-country ride

EIGHT participants from KEMAS (Kelab Maxi Scooter, Kuala Belait) are currently in Jakarta, Indonesia, participating in the ‘KEMAS 3 Nation – 5 Island Expedition 2016’, covering a distance of 5,100km in 16 days from December 3-18.

The participants left the country on November 26 to Kota Kinabalu and shipped their bikes to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). On December 3, the participants were flagged-off by Dato Paduka Haji Alaihuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Utama Haji Awang Mohd Taha, the Brunei High Commissioner to Malaysia.

Expedition leader Mazuki Yusope said, “As member of KEMAS, our vision is to promote scooters in particular and Brunei in general as a tourist and biker attraction.

“This is the first time a ‘scooterist’ from Brunei is going for a long charity expedition to West Malaysia, Indonesia and Southern Thailand. We are hoping to meet the bikers along the way to build up solidarity and friendship, which coincides with our club motto ‘Ride for Unity’.”

Road captain/convoy leader Haji Muhammad Noor Ariffin bin Haji Md Diah said, “Apart from touring, it is building up team spirit, positive mindset and maintaining good discipline following road safety and regulations in the countries we visit.”

He added that the expedition objectives are to promote Brunei Darussalam, as a charity ride, foster new relationships and attend the Kuala Lumpur Bike Week.

The participants will visit all the 11 states in West Malaysia, Thailand – Sungai Golok, Krabi, Phuket, Koh Samui, Hatyai, Songkhla and Phang Nga as well as Singapore City.

The expedition brought them to visited five islands namely, Penang and Langkawi in Malaysia, Phuket and Koh Samui in Thailand and Singapore.

Apart from touring, the participants are also doing charity activities at Pondok Tahfiz Al-Quran Baitul Rahman, Kg Nyatoh Setiu, Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia and Pondok As Saedah Sungai Golok in Thailand.

KEMAS was established in June 2006 for owners of 250cc and above scooters. Currently, the club has a total of 65 members.
