THE Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) together with the Land Transport Department (JPD) yesterday conducted a roadblock operation along Jalan Muara near Pekan Muara.
The operation involved 12 police personnel from Traffic Control and Investigation Department led by Sgt Major 3049 Haji Abu Bakar bin Haji Rahman and seven personnel from the JPD led by Pengiran Khairul Yusra bin Pengiran Haji Mohd Yussof, Acting Head of Regulation and Persecution Division of JPD.
According to Pengiran Khairul Yusra, the operation focussed on road safety aspects of vehicles, especially commercial vehicles such as pick-ups, trucks, trailers and buses.
The JPD personnel also searched luggage inside commercial buses. The vehicles that were found to have been fitted with tinted glass were asked to remove it on the spot. This included vehicles driven by foreigners.
The operation also served as a platform to remind and give information to motorists on road safety issues such as not using mobile phone while driving, use safety belt and follow the speed limit.
The JPD official said the number of road accidents involving fatality in the country is highly worrying. As of yesterday, a total of 32 fatalities were recorded this year, he added.
