AMPELMANN, the global leader in motion compensated offshore access solutions, yesterday celebrated its latest achievement of two million safe transfers with Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP).
During an afternoon tea party at Plaza Sutera Biru in Kuala Belait, it was announced that the two millionth transfer took place on a project for BSP.
Evert Willeumier, Ampelmann’s operations area manager for the Asia Pacific region, said that BSP makes up 20-25 per cent of its projects and 10 of its vessels are equipped with Ampelmann products.
Ampelmann is a company specialising in high-tech offshore personnel transfer focusing on development, construction and lease of offshore access solutions since it was founded in 2008.
“We particularly try to help the client’s employee transfer from a vessel to the platform in a much safer way than the conventional way to reduce the risk of incidents,” Evert said.
BSP utilises the A-Type and L-Type systems that Evert described as “suitable due to the nature of the waters (South China Sea) in this region.

“The A-Type is designed to compensate wave motions of up to 2.5 metres,” he said in a presentation.
The main use for the A-Type is to transfer people, small equipment or cargo from a vessel or barge to fixed or floating structures. It can be mounted on any common vessel used during offshore operations.
The L-Type is the smallest system suited for small crew vessels.
Also present at the afternoon tea party were officials from the Department of Energy and Industry, Prime Minister’s Office and senior staff members of BSP.
Ampelmann has offices in Singapore, the United States of America, Brunei, Brazil and Qatar as well as agents in Australia, Malaysia and India.
