KAMPONG Kapok recently played host to a government delegation comprising Agriculture and Agrifood Department officials escorting two agricultural researchers from New Zealand.
The visitors were greeted upon arrival by the Village Head of Kg Kapok, Haji Marali bin Ahmad, accompanied by members of its village consultative council.
They were then brought on a tour of the Kg Kapok’s banana plantation located beside the Meragang Highway.
The visit is part of the ongoing cooperation between both nations toward boosting ties as well as sharing ideas, knowledge and experiences in the field.
The researchers were also able to provide advice on how to potentially improve the overall outcome of the plantation, as well as discuss issues of branding and how to maintain quality in order to ensure a more sustainable return.

The village launched the banana plantation in April last year and it is expected to yield its first harvest – ‘Pisang Sabah’ – by the year’s end.
The primary aim of growing the fruit is for the village to reduce the cost of making banana-flavoured crisps, its product under the government’s ‘One Village, One Product’ initiative.
