THE opening ceremony for the commencement of a leadership course for 27 new members of the 2015/2016 Student Representative Council of the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) was held yesterday at its Tarbiyyah Hall.

The guest of honour who officiated the event was the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof.

The ceremony began with a mass recitation of Asmaa Al-Husna and Surah Al-Fatihah led by Abdul Hafiz bin Abdul Musauwir, the Exco for Religious and Takmir Surau.

It then continued with welcoming remarks from the Dean of Students, Dr Haji Hambali bin Haji Jaili.

Speaking at the event, Permanent Secretary Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz highlighted that Islam requires every leader to be equipped with four criteria.

Among them are the ‘Shidq’ which means truth and sincerity in performing duties, that ‘Amanah’ and trust given are well-kept, ‘Fathanah’ meaning intelligence and efficiency in carrying out such duties and handling problems and – last but not least – ‘Tabligh’, which means to be honest and be responsible with every action made.

“In generating and fostering future leaders who will inherit leadership, a nation would require an organised and systematic effort, as they will become the next generation of leaders,” he said.

The ceremony then continued with the recitation of an oath by members of the Student Representative Council led by Adiman bin Musa, President of the KUPU SB’s Student Representative Council.

A Doa Selamat to mark the end of the ceremony was later recited by Pengiran Haji Mahmud bin Pengiran Haji Othman, the Imam Surau of KUPU SB.
